Re: [DML] Disappointing DMC Representation

Hello list,

This is my first post to the list, although I have lurked here for
four years, gleaned much good advice, and enjoyed the forum very
much. I am now in the process of restoring my second Delorean.
Anyway, with the emergence of this particular thread, I felt
inclined to chime in at long last.

You see, I worked for IMAX Corporation from 1989 - 2002. It was
during those early years that the BTTF ride was first developed. I
was project manager in charge of audio for the dome and ride
vehicles in all three attraction locations - Orlando, Hollywood, and
finally Osaka, Japan. It remains to this day as some of the most
interesting and exciting work I have ever done.

It was during these projects when I first became interested in the
Delorean. I will never forget the first time I saw one on the
backlot at Universal - I could feel my heart actually beating faster
as I peeked under the cover. I knew I had to have one. When I
finally got my first one in 2000, I was still all excited about the
ride and the film, having just returned from a month in Osaka
putting the final touches on the project there. But after owning the
car for a little while, I became much more interested in the car for
its unique history and design than its association with the films.

So, this news of the demise of BTTF-The Ride comes with some
saddness on my part, like losing a part of your legacy so to speak.
But time does move on, and the Orlando system is now fifteen years
old. The motion bases, projection, and sound systems are hugely
complicated things and costly to maintain. I can understand why
Universal might want to use the real estate for something more
contemporary.

All the best,
